Our recorder unit has finally begun! The 4th graders have been excited all year to start learning the recorder, and I'm happy to say that the time has arrived. Please be patient with your children as they practice their new instruments. They need LOTS of encouragement as they start out. Playing a musical instrument is very difficult and requires a lot of hard (and consistent) work!
This year in music I have been speaking to the students about the Growth Mindset (seeing challenges as an opportunity to "grow our brain" instead of feeling scared or not trying at all!) An important component to tackling a challenge is being optimistic that they will be able to work through it. Also, if students begin to feel frustrated, instead of giving up, be persistent (try again) or if that doesn't seem to work, be flexible (try another way!)
Feel free to use these words at home if your child is experiencing frustration as they practice their recorder. Remind them that it takes a long time to learn important skills, and that consistent practice will pay off in the end! Our recorder concert will be on Thursday, May 25th at 1:30pm in the NFS gym.
If your child wants to practice along with the music at home, click on "Music Classes" above, then click on "Fourth Grade." Scroll down and you will see each song listed. Click on the song title, and enjoy playing along with it!
